Introduction to the Scholarship
The Chinese Government Scholarships Postgraduate Study Project, set up by the Ministry of Education of China (MOE), is intended to provide support for building universities to an international high level, and to promote Chinese higher education. Enrolment is managed directly by China's key universities.
The scholarship covers:
Registration fees, tuition fees, living allowance, accommodation fees, and medical insurance and so on.
Eligibility: Foreign full-time master and doctoral candidates starting in the new academic year. The scholarship is not open for foreign students who have already started their degree courses in China.
Program start: September
Scholarship duration:
2-3 years for master programs.
3-4 years for doctoral programs.
Each includes 1 year of Chinese language foundation studies.

The University offers scholarships for excellent applicants The recipients will have their tuition fees covered, up to a maximum of 3 years for a PhD, 2 -3 years for a Master degree and 4-5 years for a Bachelor degree. The recipients' academic performance will be assessed each year and only those achieving the required standard will have their scholarship renewed for the following year.

Candidate Requirements
1. Bachelor candidates (only for XMU Scholarship) should have a high school diploma and be in a good state of health;
2. Master's candidates should have a Bachelor Degree or equivalent or higher and be in a good state of health;
3. Doctoral candidates: should have a Master Degree or equivalent or higher and be in a good state of health;
4. Chinese Proficiency for programs taught in Chinese.
? For candidates in arts and social science, including Economics, Management, Law or the Arts, minimum level of HSK Secondary Grade C (Level 6) .
? For candidates in science and technology, minimum level of HSK Elementary Grade C (Level 3)
? In order to meet the language requirements for their specific courses, candidates with no previous knowledge of Chinese are required to take a foundation course in the Chinese language at the XMU Overseas Education College, and pass the appropriate HSK test held in April, June or December each year before starting their courses.
5. English proficiency for programs taught in English: TOEFL or IELTS, with a minimum requirement of 550 points or above for TOEFL (80 points or above for New TOEFL), grade 6.0 or above for IELTS, or a certificate from some other authorized test of English proficiency. Native english speakers and applicants who receive undergraduate studies in English as the teaching language are exempt from this requirement.
How to Apply for the Scholarship
Step 1: Important! Complete the on-line application at http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn/application/
Step2 : Send the completed application form and all the relevant documents as listed below to the admissions office after successful online application.
Each scholarship requires a separate application.
1. XMU Scholarship: Application Form for Xiamen University Scholarship, completed in Chinese or English.
2. Chinese Government Scholarship: Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, one original and one photocopy, completed in Chinese or in English.
3. Notarized photocopy of current highest diploma. Currently enrolled students should provide a certificate of student status. Diploma documents in languages other than Chinese or English must have certified Chinese or English translations attached.
4. Certified copy of academic transcript or mark sheet for undergraduate or postgraduate studies as appropriate.
5. Appropriate HSK certificate or certificate of English proficiency test.
6. A study or research plan of at least 800 words written in Chinese or English.
7.Two original academic references from either professors or associate professors, written in Chinese or English.
Special consideration will be given to recommendation letters from supervisors at XMU.
8. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form, completed in English. The medical examination must cover all the items listed in the form.
9. Photocopy of a valid foreign passport.

Approval and Notification
Prospective students can apply for both the Chinese Government and XMU Scholarships. The admissions office is responsible for reviewing the application materials.
The Chinese Government Scholarship awardees will be notified by mid-July.
The XMU Scholarship awardees will be notified by mid-August.
Accommodation
The overseas student apartments in Xiamen Campus are set in picturesque surroundings and enjoy sea views and fresh sea air. The buildings are fully-equipped with modern facilities, including telephones, air-conditioning, cable TV, Internet access points and separate bathrooms.
