Information Services at WISE

The Center for Information Technology Services (CITS) provides essential IT services and support in teaching and research at WISE. It specializes in technical software and high performance computing facilities, provides research support data processing, and advises faculty and students on IT applications.
The Center, equipped with fifteen High Performance Computer Clusters, greatly enhances the efficiency of data analysis, economic research, and education at WISE. The technology of high-performance computation aims to achieve increased performance by splitting the computational tasks across many different processors or computer clusters. Based on its systematic setting of resources, the technology provides possibilities for parallel computation, transmission and storage, commonly used in large-scale parallel computing and real-time analysis and control. The usage of high-performance computers has recently been considered an important criterion of academic and research capacity.
WISE has an advanced video conference room accommodating an audience of one hundred, and five research & development labs, as well as five professional multimedia computer labs (250 seats). Three hundred computing nodes for researchers to process their data simultaneously are also provided. At present, CITS has successfully developed platforms for teaching & learning, academic resources, student administration, and research & development, as well as an office administration system. CITS has also organized IT training sessions for administrative staff and provides a service course on Research Data Analysis to postgraduate students at XMU. The Center actively seeks international collaboration and provides cutting-edge technology and resources. CITS has successfully linked up with SAS, one of the leading computing companies in the world, and jointly set up the WISE Center for Econometrics Research.
With the help of advanced video conferencing equipment, WISE has collaborated with School of Economics, Singapore Management University and Academia Sinica, Taiwan, to share teaching and academic resources. From the partnership with Shihua International Financial Information Ltd, WISE provides researchers with access to global financial news and various new technologies, including software & systems for simulating e-trade, futures and foreign exchange markets. WISEs other cooperative activities include collaboration with eHealth China (Xiamen) Technology, Co., Ltd in quantitative analysis and data mining and publication of text books with Microsoft China and China Higher Education Press.

CITS at WISE will continue to introduce and develop new and advanced technologies to facilitate WISEs research and teaching activities. It will introduce and maintain facilities such as Journal Storage (JSTOR full text), ScienceDirect Onsite (SDOS full text), ProQuest Digital Dissertation (full text), PQARL, ProQuest ABI/INFORM, and databases and e-journals from Blackwell and Springer. The center will continue to adopt up-to-date technology in an effort to provide the best service for teaching and research at WISE. Currently, CITS is setting up a high-performance server cluster with Singapore Management University, DELL, ORACLE, and MICROSOFT to provide a more efficient IT environment.
